Rovers once again were unfortunate not to come away with maximum points against a very physical Airdrie team who scored with their only real shot on target. Airdrie’s 14 fouls against 6 sums the game up.
Super Ali Love’s late equaliser rescued a point for Rovers as they held play-off rivals Airdrie to a 1-1 draw in the final Monklands derby of the season.
Both teams went into the match on the back of successive defeats which had seen Stranraer move four points clear of them in fourth place, although both teams have a game in hand.
Neither side could force a breakthrough during a cagey first half but the deadlock was broken 10 minutes after the break when Fitzpatrick shot into the roof of the net for his third goal of the season.
Rovers had a great chance when Love passed to Archibald but X Rover Parry once again saved them. Ross Dunlop also had a great chance from a corner but Parry saved from close range when the ball was goal bound. Airdrie could not hold on, though, as Love slotted in from Paul Archibald’s cross in the 80th minute to earn a deserved share of the spoils.
Rovers are still in a very healthy position in league 1 and thanks to the superb away support today.
