Faissal El Bakhtaoui’s 22nd goal of the Ladbrokes League One season nicked an undeserved 1-0 victory for champions Dunfermline at Albion.
El Bakhtaoui drew level with Peterhead’s Rory McAllister as the division’s joint top-scorer, stretching Dunfermline’s unbeaten run to 10 games in the process.
Generously given a guard of honour by their opponents before the game, Dunfermline lost defender Craig Reid nine minutes in to injury. He was replaced by Shaun Rooney.
Soon after, Albion keeper Ross Stewart made a fine save from El Bakhtaoui who shot from the centre of the area.
Early in the second period Albion’s Spas Georgiev and Dunfermline’s David Hopkirk forced saves before the visitors’ Ryan Wallace, having cut in from the left, hit the post. Rovers had the majority of the chances and were really unlucky not to score after a short corner was whipped into the box by Davidson and somehow smashed by the post from close range. Love was judged offside, when clearly on and could have made it 1-0 as he was clean through on goal.
Brad McKay’s header from a corner was cleared off the line as Dunfermline continued to press and El Bakhtaoui eventually converted from close range in the 87th minute after continuos Rovers pressure at the other end following a cross from Joe Cardle who soon after struck the post.
