What you need to know:
Tomorrow evening Rovers head south to face Berwick Rangers in our second Betfred Cup fixture of the season.
After Saturday’s well-earned point at home to Championship side Greenock Morton, it’s now vital that we pick up a win in Berwick if we are to push to progress into the next stage of the Betfred Cup.
Although Berwick are in the league below, they will certainly be no pushovers, possessing a strong record on their home turf.
Darren Young commented on the threat that the Gers pose.
“We had Berwick watched on Sat against Alloa so we know we’ll be in for a difficult game. They will be up for the game with it being their first game of the season so we will need to be ready from the first whistle.
“There is no pressure on the boys. We will go into the game with an idea of how we want to play and try put that into practice when the game begins.”
The coaching staff will have a near enough full-strength side to pick from, however, Paul Archibald is unavailable, whilst striker Ryan Wallace remains sidelined with an ankle knock.
Despite not being able to call on Wallace’s services, Monday’s signing Ross Stewart is available for selection, a signing Young was ecstatic to finalise.
“Ross will be a good signing for the club. He is different to Ryan and Calum as he’s 6 foot 4. He has good feet for a big man, holds the ball up well and has an eye for goal so he should compliment the two other strikers that we have. If he works hard and continues to improve there’s no reason he can’t go on to an even higher level.”
