Ayr United Preview

Ayr-UnitedAfter a two week break from action, this afternoon we return to Ladbrokes League One action, hosting Ayr United.

Ayr, who currently sit in second spot in the league, come into the game with slightly stuttering form – losing their last two matches away to Stranraer and Cowdenbeath respectively, and without an away victory since late October.

Despite Ayr United’s poor form in recent weeks, player/manager Darren Young still, very much so, believes the Honest Men will provide tough opposition.

“Ayr have an experienced team full of quality players, therefore if we allow them to play we’ll be in trouble. They are second in the table for a reason.”

This is Rovers first game since that devastating defeat at home to local rivals Airdrieonians, a game Young finds difficult to reflect on.

“The Airdrie game was absolutely gut-wrenching for all the players, coaching staff and fans. To have played so well, create so many chances and out fight and out play your derby rivals and then Come away with nothing was very hard to take.”

Young added: “It’s been disappointing that we have been unable to get back on the park since. That is half the season played so we’re looking at it as if were kicking off the second half of the season. We picked up thirteen points in the first quarter and challenged the players to equal or better that in the second quarter and we got fifteen points. We’re now looking again to see if we can equal or better that.”

The coaching staff will have a near-enough full strength squad to pick from for this afternoon, only Andrew Barrowman still absent through his leg injuries.

Despite Rovers sitting in fourth spot, with three games in hand over third placed Peterhead, Young still believes that this game is the same as any other, and the team will prepare for it in the same fashion as to others.

“We go into today’s game like we do every other game, the objective being to get all three points. Whatever happens elsewhere will happen, we can’t influence it.”
