Congratulations to Livingston clinched the Ladbrokes League 1 title with four games to spare thanks to a 2-1 win over Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

David Hopkin’s side needed just a point to seal the championship against their closest challengers but goals from Scott Pittman and Jackson Longridge saw them end the Wasps’ 10-match unbeaten run, with Dylan Mackin netting for the visitors.

Today’s win at the Tony Macaroni Arena marks an immediate return to the Ladbrokes Championship for Livingston, who were relegated last season.

Elsewhere in League 1, Airdrieonians leapfrogged Brechin City in the play-off places following a 3-1 win at the Excelsior Stadium.

Queen’s Park kept their top-four ambitions alive with a 2-0 victory against second-bottom Peterhead at Hampden.

Albion Rovers are just three points outside the top four after beating Stranraer 3-0 at the Exsel Group Stadium.

Bottom club Stenhousemuir defeated East Fife 3-1 at Ochilview to close the gap on Peterhead to just two points as the visitors slipped to fifth.

Albion Rovers 1 v 1 Alloa Athletic

Category : Match Reports

After a superb second half performance Rovers will feel that was two points dropped after coming from a goal down to draw the match 1-1.
Alloa went ahead after a curving long shot went past Rovers keeper Stewart. Theo Archieblad should have put the Rovers equal in the first half but his goal bound shot was cleared by an Alloa defender. Second half was all Rovers and we deservedly equalised after debutant Theo Archiebald’s cross was clipped in by Ross Stewart. Rovers piled on the pressure but just couldn’t get that winner. Theo Archiebald was the sponsors MOM.

Albion had the better of the game with some great work, interchanging high tempo passing seen them take the lead through Liam McGuigan, although underserved, slack marking towards the end of the first half seen Clyde go level

1-1 Halftime

Second half Albion were dominating play across midfield and had little trouble dealing with a Clyde side who never really looked dangerous, the one first half effort was their best and Albion went on to win with a goal from Jamie Gallagher.

Deserved win and some good work from Ryan McManus could have made it more.

Albion Rovers 0 v 1 Dunfermline Athletic

Category : Match Reports

Faissal El Bakhtaoui’s 22nd goal of the Ladbrokes League One season nicked an undeserved 1-0 victory for champions Dunfermline at Albion.

El Bakhtaoui drew level with Peterhead’s Rory McAllister as the division’s joint top-scorer, stretching Dunfermline’s unbeaten run to 10 games in the process.

Generously given a guard of honour by their opponents before the game, Dunfermline lost defender Craig Reid nine minutes in to injury. He was replaced by Shaun Rooney.

Soon after, Albion keeper Ross Stewart made a fine save from El Bakhtaoui who shot from the centre of the area.

Early in the second period Albion’s Spas Georgiev and Dunfermline’s David Hopkirk forced saves before the visitors’ Ryan Wallace, having cut in from the left, hit the post. Rovers had the majority of the chances and were really unlucky not to score after a short corner was whipped into the box by Davidson and somehow smashed by the post from close range. Love was judged offside, when clearly on and could have made it 1-0 as he was clean through on goal.

Brad McKay’s header from a corner was cleared off the line as Dunfermline continued to press and El Bakhtaoui eventually converted from close range in the 87th minute after continuos Rovers pressure at the other end  following a cross from Joe Cardle who soon after struck the post.

Albion Rovers 4 v 1 Brechin City

Category : Match Reports

Ally Love scored twice as Albion Rovers moved into Scottish League One’s top four with a convincing win against Brechin City.

Love went twice early on before Scott McBride headed Rovers’ opener.

Andrew Barrowman capitalised on a defensive error to make it two and Love finished off a swift counter-attack for the third.

Brechin’s Paul McLean pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but Love then scored a spot-kick of his own.
