It may be the end of season break for many at Albion Rovers Football Club, but there’s no rest for manager Darren Young, who is already well underway for next seasons preparations. He spoke to us, giving his take on the clubs recruitment policy and how instead of the quantity, it’s about the quality of the players at the club as well as the Betfred Cup draw.
“This is about bringing the best players we can to Albion Rovers.
“We want to improve the team and are working hard on adding quality.
“If other clubs are able to offer more money then good luck to them.
“We have a tight budget and we’re trying to do as much as we can with it.
“One of our big selling points is that we make players better and help them to progress in their careers.
“We have a track record of doing that. Josh Mullin came to us, did well and got a move to Livingston.
“Our keeper, Ross Stewart, received a call-up to the Scotland under-21s squad and Chris Cadden is in Motherwell’s first team after doing well on loan with us.
“The good news for us is that we have 12 players signed up for next season and that wasn’t the case this time last year.”
“In terms of the Betfred Cup draw, It’s always going to be a tough group no matter who you draw with 2 teams from the Leagues above us. It’s exciting and something for us to look forward to test ourself against different types of opposition.”
“We will obviously still be building up our fitness towards the season ahead but without a doubt we will be taking all the games seriously and going out to win.”
“We will take all the games one at a time and see how we get on. You can’t look to far ahead as all the teams will be looking to get a good start also. Getting up to match speed and ready for the League campaign will be vital and if we can get a few wins under our belt then even better.”
