Greenock Morton Match Preview

Greenock_Morton_FC_logo.svgAfter a successful evening in the league on Tuesday night, this Saturday we turn our focus to Scottish Cup duties where we face Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton in the third round at Cliftonhill.

Morton, who currently sit in fourth place in the Championship, will provide us with a huge task if we’re to progress into the fourth round, however, player/manager Darren Young suggests that he’s seen enough over the course of the season to believe a cup upset could well be on the cards.

“Morton will be very hard opponents. We have managed to watch them a fair bit over the last few weeks and we’re expecting a tough game.”

“If we’re wanting to take anything away from the game, we’ll need to perform the way we have been doing for the last few weeks on league duties.”

If Rovers are to come away with the victory on Saturday, we’ll need to do so without Josh Mullin, who has been in read hot form as of late – picking up two consecutive Man of the Match awards and two goals.

Young commented: “We’re gutted for Josh as he’s been a key player for us over the last few weeks.”

“Hopefully we’ll go through to the next round and he’ll be given his chance to impress.”

Rovers will come into the huge cup tie off the back of just three defeats in the last ten matches in the Ladbrokes League One, with another vital three points coming on Tuesday nights match against Cowdenbeath, in which the team did well given the amount of changes made to the side.

“On Tuesday night it was pleasing to see Scott McBride come into the side and score, whilst Callum McRobbie set up Josh Mullin with an incredible pass and Ricardo Talu slotted in at the back alongside Michael Dunlop.”

“Every player now knows that if they’re not producing the goods in games, we have players available to step up and take their chance. It keeps everyone on their toes.”

“It was really disappointing to get knocked out of the other cups this season at the first hurdle, but as a team we were still finding our feet and up against two top teams in Raith Rovers and Ayr United.”

“We’d absolutely love to go on another run in the cup, especially with the way things went a couple of years back.”
