Yesterday, on deadline day, Albion Rovers youth product Paul Archibald signed his first professional contract for the club, in a deal that sees him stay at Cliftonhill until at least the end of the season.
The winger, who turned 17 last November, has been with the clubs Under 19’s side since the start of the season and over the last few months has developed so much that he now finds himself fighting for a place in the first team.
“Over the last three or four months there has been a number of friendlies which I have been involved with some of the first team players. It’s only been the last few weeks where I have started to train twice a week with the first team and even been in a few match day squads.”
Archibald also made his first appearance for the club last weekend in Peterhead, however, the youngster recalls the game as being a bitter sweet experience.
“I made my debut at the weekend, which was a great experience for me personally, although, like the whole team, I was disappointed with the results.”
Securing his future at the club until the summer at least, Archibald is now setting his sites on making an impact in the first team.
“Obviously I’m delighted to have signed for Albion Rovers as it is my first professional contract. It’s a great club and what they have achieved this season is fantastic. I’ve enjoyed every minute I have had with the first team, whether it was playing in friendly matches or at training during the week.”
“Personally, my aim now is to try and get as much game time as possible. I know I’ll need to work hard in training for that to happen.”
