Poor First-Half Proves Costly

Category : Uncategorised

A first-half that saw Ayr score twice inside the first minutes proved to be Rovers undoing this afternoon, as Darren Young’s side fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat.

The games opening goal came after just 90 seconds, on-loan Blackburn striker Jordan Preston receiving the ball inside the box, before accurately converting into the bottom corner.

Only three minutes later the Ayrshire side doubled their lead through Ryan Stevenson’s wonder-strike. The midfielder picked up the ball within close proximity to the half-way-line, steadied himself, then floated an unstoppable effort into the back of the net from distance.

To make matters worse, after just 15 minutes on the clock Rovers were forced into making a change, injury seeing John Gemmell being replaced by Callum McRobbie.

Although thereafter the game seemed to even out a bit, with just two minutes left before the interval, the Honest men converted their third of the afternoon. This time, the clinical Preston headed home from close-range.

The second half was, as a whole, much quieter than the first, the scoreline staying the same for much of the half, however, with only a minute remaining Ally Love scored what proved to be only a consolation goal.

The second half was, as a whole, far quieter than the first, the score-line staying at 3-0 for the vast majority of the period. There was however a miniscule glimmer of hope when Ally Love scored just before injury time was added, however, Love’s goal proved to be only a small consolation in an otherwise disappointing afternoon for Rovers players, supporters and staff.
