Following a weeks break from action after heavy rainfall seeing last weekends clash with Stranraer postponed, this Saturday, we make the journey east to face Stenhousemuir.
Stenhousemuir, who currently sit two points behind Rovers in fifth place, have been in fairly decent form over the past month or so – going undefeated throughout the month of November in the league with manager Brown Ferguson also being awarded with the monthly Ladbrokes League One Manger of the Month accolade.
Despite Stenny’s success in the league across last month, they come into Saturday’s match off the back of a sore exit from the Scottish Cup last week – a 1-1 draw at home to East Kilbride followed by a 2-1 defeat in the replay.
Despite Ferguson’s side faltering in the cup last weekend, Rovers player/manager Darren Young is still expecting a hugely tough match.
“Every game is difficult and Saturday’s trip will be no different. They’ll be hoping to bounce back after last week, so we’ll need to be very focused and all do our jobs come three o’clock.”
Despite a week free of football last Saturday, striker John Gemmell has picked up an injury and will be unable to play, whilst Ross Turnbull will have to sit-out, serving suspension.
Young commented: “We’d have preferred to have had a game and keep up the momentum from the last few games, but on the other hand it’s allowed us to give the boys a little rest to re-charge the batteries and get over any niggles or strains.”
With it being all so tight at the top end of the table, a Rovers win could, potentially, see the side move five points clear of fourth placed Stenhousemuir as well as have a game in hand, but Young suggests that the sole focus is just about the Rovers.
“It’s all about picking up as many points as possible.” said Young
He added: “We don’t really pay attention to what is going on around us, we’re only focusing on what we can do and our own performances. There’s not much difference between all the teams and any team on their day can beat anyone.”
“We like to get the ball and pass it so we’re hoping the weather can be a bit better than it has the past few games.”
“Either way, they’ll be looking to bounce back, so we’ll have to be ready for that if we’re to come away with all three points.”
