After a fantastic footballing day for Ally Love on Saturday – beating Forfar Athletic, scoring a goal, assisting two goals, winning Player of the Year, Albion Rovers Trust Player of the Year and winning the Sponsors Man of the Match award – you’d forgive Rovers midfielder Ally Love for being just a little bit happy.
We caught up with the Rovers top- goalscorer after his successful day.
“Everybody wrote us off at the start of the season, we just got promoted and we’re a small club, everyone sees us as the Wee Rovers, but the boys in the dressing-room don’t look at it like that. We’ve got cracking boys in the squad, we’re a good age and we really want to progress as a team and as a club. Everyone is in it together.
“Next week is huge. It’s good for the league that we’ve got to this stage and so many sides are still fighting and scratching and playing games that matter. It’s just really exciting in general, goal difference may play a huge part next week.”
On his triumph at the awards night, Love commented: “It feels great to be given the award. It really means a lot to me that the fans appreciate the hard-work and desire I show on the park.
“The fans have been brilliant this season. When you’re on that park grinding away they really get behind you and are with you every step of the way.
“Fans at the Rovers have seen some pretty tough times and deserve the success. They really give the team a boost when they are vocal and it spurs the lads on.”
He concluded the interview: “A massive thanks from myself to all the supporters, it’s truly appreciated.” Ally is pictured with match sponsors Allied Timber. Thanks to Iain McLean for photograph.
